Suspect eludes TCSO deputy, runs home to parents' garage to stash motorcycle

Posted

On the night of January 25, a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle racing at 60mph in a 35mph zone in Lacey, TCSO reported on their social media post.

The deputy noticed a red truck tailing the motorcycle,  linked to a recent burglary arrest.

The deputy did a routine traffic stop, but the motorcycle evaded, prompting him to respond and chase the suspect to his parents' house where the fleeing suspect tried to hide the motorcycle in the garage.

“The suspect was able to flee the area on foot after running through the house and was not located,” TCSO stated.

Further investigation revealed that the fleeing suspect was the same individual arrested just a week prior for a burglary in progress and property damage at a church.

The suspect was later booked for these violations but was released on a promise to appear in court.

“The motorcycle did not come back as a reported stolen, but is registered out of Pierce County, has a punched ignition, and is started with a pair of pliers,” TCSO reported. “As a precaution, the motorcycle was impounded for safekeeping.”

". . . the same individual arrested just a week prior for a burglary in progress and property damage at a church.

The suspect was later booked for these violations but was released on a promise to appear . . . " Released on a promise! After just being arrested on a prior burglary?? Yeah, that really worked. What IS the problem with holding arrestees in jail around here?!!!

Hi Bobkat, The U.S. Constitution's Sixth Amendment guarantees the accused to a "speedy trial". As the judicial system can take months or even years to grind through the trial process an accused person cannot be held indefinitely while awaiting trial. The Eighth Amendment guarantees the accused reasonable bail.

    So, that's probably the reason.

    Where was the punk's parents?

Or, as happened to my neighbor...he caught a punk and his girlfriend trying to steal the catalytic converter off his pickup, which was parked next to his house (NOT on the street). This was at 10 PM on a weekday night. While his wife called the sheriff (and a deputy lives a few blocks from us) my neighbor held the thieves at gunpoint until the deputy arrived.

The deputy learned the male punk had a warrant for his arrest in Lewis County...but still, he LET THEM GO.

When we all protested, he sniveled, "Our jail is full."

Now this was before Derek Sanders was elected Sheriff. Maybe things are different, but even so, darn it, put these people in JAIL. FOR A WHILE, not an overnight stay.
