An 18-year-old driver has been arrested in connection with a collision on March 4, that killed the 17-year-old female passenger, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office announced today.

The teenager was arrested last Thursday, June 15, for vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and driving under the influence.

The sheriff’s office processed the evidence around the collision, including collision reconstruction efforts and laboratory blood analysis following the March 4 incident.

The Sheriff’s Office said lab results from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab indicated that 4.7 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) of THC were detected in the driver’s blood. The legal limit for those under 21 is 0.0 ng/mL.

No alcohol was detected in the driver’s blood, despite earlier claims that he smelled of alcohol on the day of the crash.

The two-car collision occurred on the 13800 block of Rainier Road SE. The teenager lost control of his vehicle as he approached a curve, causing him to enter the opposite lane where he crashed into another car.

His female passenger died in the incident, while the driver of the other vehicle, a 24-year-old Rainier woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

“As we mourn the loss of life, we remind everyone never to operate a vehicle under the influence of any intoxicating substance,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
