An man in his 60s and a teenage girl were killed in two separate collisions in Thurston County over the weekend.

Tampering with evidence

Last Friday, March 3, deputies were dispatched to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the 10900 block of Case Road SW, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a man in his 60s already dead from his injuries. The driver, also a man in his 60s, left the scene before law enforcement arrived, but later returned.

An investigation found that the driver and pedestrian knew each other. After the collision, the driver moved the victim’s body from the scene of the crash to a location closer to the victim’s residence.

The driver did not seek aid for the victim, but instead left the scene and called acquaintances who later found the victim dead.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail for first-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities have not yet identified him as he has yet to be charged.

Teen passenger dead

The following day, March 4, deputies were dispatched to a two-car collision on the 13800 block of Rainier Road SE.

The investigation revealed that an 18-year-old male was driving north along Rainier Road and lost control of his vehicle as he approached a curve, causing him to enter the opposite lane.

His car collided with a vehicle traveling south, killing his 17-year-old female passenger.

The 18-year-old was first rushed to the Providence St. Peter Hospital, then transferred to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a 24-year-old Rainier woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the 18-year-old driver smelled of alcohol. He was booked for driving under the influence and will face charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

“We are saddened by this senseless loss of life and stand with those affected by this incident,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
