Two SPSCC awarded with the 2024 Outstanding Student Award

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) celebrated the achievements of Kychelle Barnes and Jemoi Davis by presenting them with the 2024 Outstanding Student Award during the recent commencement ceremony.

Selected by SPSCC staff and faculty, the two recipients were given recognition for their personal growth, academic success, and contributions to the college and local community.

Each student received a $500 scholarship from the SPSCC Foundation.

Kychelle Barnes, who graduated with high honors and has an associate’s degree in biology, has been actively involved in community initiatives, including the ASHHO Cultural Center, BIPOC programs, and SPSCC’s IGNITE program.

Barnes plans to attend Spelman College and aims to pursue a medical career, eventually attending Howard University.

Jemoi Davis, who earned an Associate in Science degree, was a student-athlete on the Clipper Men’s Basketball team, competing in the NWAC Basketball Championships for two years.

Davis also contributed as an Office Assistant at the SPSCC Advising, Career & Transfer Center.

Jemoi plans to continue his education in a four-year Information Technology degree.

Jemoi looked back on his time at SPSCC, sharing, “SPSCC has been one of the best experiences of my life, with so much support and help when it comes to my career and education.”
