Public urged to contribute comments on Capital Mall Triangle environmental plan

Posted

The Capital Mall Triangle Subarea Plan and the accompanying Planned Action Environmental Impact Statement has been set for public review last September 28, making the draft Environment Impact Statement (EIS) available for public commentary.

Interested community members can access the document on the dedicated Capital Mall Triangle website.

The EIS assesses potential significant adverse environmental impacts of different future development scenarios.

Two alternatives have been outlined in the draft EIS, each presenting a distinct approach to the envisioned development within the Capital Mall Triangle.

The first alternative consists of moderate actions to facilitate the area’s development.

The second alternative takes a more ambitious approach, involving a broader set of actions, partnerships, and investments to spur substantial development within the triangle.

Detailed descriptions of these alternatives are available in the draft EIS.

For comments to be officially included in the Environment Impact Statement and addressed by EIS, they must be submitted via email, letter, or through the project website. Submissions must also include a name and a valid mailing address.

Olympia's press release emphasized that public input is vital in selecting the preferred alternative and completing the environmental impact statement.

The deadline for submission is October 30, 2023.

Public meetings

For further discussion and feedback, two public meetings have been scheduled.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Olympia City Hall council chambers.

The second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, at the same time and will take place at Capital Mall.

An online viewing option will be available for those who cannot attend in person.

Detailed information about these meetings can be found on the project webpage.
