Jellyfish Jam, kid-friendly Pier Peer headline fun events at Estuarium

The Puget Sound Estuarium is featuring various kid-friendly activities this September, from educational to sensory ones.

The regular Pier Peer returns on September 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Boston Marina. This event lets kids scoop up and observe spectacular underwater estuary creatures, as lights attract them.

Volunteer naturalists will also be present to help identify the creatures found. Attendees also glimpse what's deep below in a remotely operated underwater vehicle.

On September 13, the Jellyfish Jam!, the Estuarium’s annual benefit concert, returns to West Central Park starting at 6 p.m. The concert will feature local bands such as Heat Shimmer, Grrrizzly, and Manic Pixie Dream Boat.

The community is also enjoined to engage during Sensory Hour on September 14 from 9 to 11 a.m., where various sensory accommodations will be available to meet guests’ needs.  While exploring exhibits, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on sensory exploration and play with sea-themed sensory toys in an affirming environment. Noise-canceling headphones will also be available.

September 15 will be free admission day, and children may also discover an all-ages Community Robotics At Budd Bay (CRABB) activity. Participants will experience underwater remotely operated vehicles and get to build one to drive around. The CRABB event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Boston Harbor Marina.
