Tumwater City Council approves acquisition of two properties for Percival Creek culvert project

Tumwater will acquire two properties as necessary right-of-way for a culvert project on Percival Creek.

Tumwater City Council approved the acquisition of the properties for $34,050 as part of its consent agenda on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The planned culvert would provide better fish passage as the creek crosses Sapp Road. The project also includes improvements to pedestrian and bicycle transportation.

One of the properties covers 3,700 square feet, is owned by a certain Ms. Langton, and will be purchased for $24,800.

The second property, more than 1,100 square feet, is owned by the Reykdal family and will be purchased for $9,250.

The costs include the removal and replacement of trees on the two sites.

Project consultant Meridith Greer said at a Public Works Committee meeting on Oct. 3 that the purpose of acquiring the lands is to allow equipment to move downstream.

The properties will be purchased from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s PROTECT grant funding program.

The city is working with Tierra Right of Way to complete the acquisition of properties.

Once ready, the city plans to advertise and bid the project to eligible firms by the end of the year, according to Greer.
