SCAM ALERT

WSDOT warns public of Good To Go! scam

Posted

The Lacey Police Department is alerting area residents of a scam that came from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). WSDOT warns the public of a new scam targeting residents by sending fraudulent texts claiming unpaid Good To Go! tolls.

Individuals reported receiving texts indicating they owe unpaid tolls and must pay immediately to avoid fees.  These messages often contain a small amount owed and a link to a counterfeit website mimicking the official Good To Go! site in order to steal personal information.

Good To Go! announced that they do not request personal information such as birth date or driver’s license number for toll payments. The Washington tolls program has clarified that they only request online payments through their official website using the customer’s user account.

They also do not specify an amount due, such as $6.67, in any text messages.

Good To Go! advised that anyone who receives such a message should not click any links but instead log in to the user’s Good To Go! account to verify any alerts.  If you do not have a Good To Go! account or have not provided your contact information, you should not receive any texts or emails from them.

Lastly, always verify messages through official channels to protect your personal information.

WSDOT urges the public to report any suspicious text messages to the Federal Trade Commission through the FTC website.

Include the phone number and the website link from the message before deleting it.

I got one. Looked real; however, I log in separately from suspicious emails. The website was clear and no payments made. Great article.

I got one of these too. The number it came from was in Canada. Nice try.

And I too got this scam on a text. I thought it was suspicious so I went to the official website and learned it was a scam. I also reported it to the FBI's scam reporting site as recommended by the staff along with the phone # on the text message.
