Wanna dance?

Up on 46th Avenue NE in Olympia, a one-story building sits right in a beautiful grove of trees, looking like a pioneer home and containing a repository of one of America’s great cultural traditions.

Lac-a-Do Hall houses Olympia Area Square Dancers (OASD), a group of people in and around Olympia who found joy in the great American tradition of square dancing.

“We have a close-knit community and host dancing most nights of the week,” OASD’s spokesperson Nancy Raiha told The JOLT, something that went on hiatus like the rest of the world when the pandemic struck. Fortunately, they’ve gotten back up and are now ready to welcome new people into their hall.

This Thursday, September 8, why not drop by Lac-a-Do Hall at 6:30 p.m. to try out their Introduction to Square Dancing? You don’t have to know anything about it, they guarantee it’s fun, and it’s free as well. It doesn’t matter if you’re coming alone, as a couple, as a family, or as a group of friends, as long as you want to have a good time and dance.

“We want people to have fun and appreciate modern square dancing,” said Nancy. “They will meet our friendly dancers and see what a fun way this is to get active and keep mentally sharp. We have found that most of the people who try it want to dance more.”

And when you learn that you do love it, you’ll find that OASD has a full calendar of dancing with regular activities every week that’ll keep you busy having fun with friends.

“Try it, and you’ll like it,” Nancy guarantees.
