On May 30, Olympia Police Department (OPD) officers responded to reports of a gunfight between two individuals near an apartment building in West Olympia.

According to the OPD news release, both suspects fled the scene on foot when the responding officers arrived.

“Officers recovered approximately 23 spent shell casings at the scene, and multiple bullets that entered occupied apartment units. Fortunately no one was injured,” OPD stated.

Witnesses provided photos, video, and information that helped authorities quickly identify and located the suspects.

The first suspect was arrested shortly after the incident at an apartment within the complex.

He was arrested without incident, and his firearm was found hidden behind a water heater in the entryway closet.

He was booked on charges of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

On June 2, authorities arrested the second suspect inside a vehicle in a business parking lot on the west side.

The suspect admitted to being at the apartment complex and engaging in a shootout following an argument with the other suspect.

He was booked on charges of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

The case remains active as officers continue to investigate the incident further.

“Thank you to all of the witnesses who provided invaluable information to help quickly identify and locate both suspects,” OPD said.
