At a meeting yesterday, June 13, Tumwater School District (TSD) Superintendent Kevin Bogatin updated the board on the changes in leadership, graduation, and events in the latest quarter.

Two schools welcomed new principals: John Neal at Tumwater Middle School and Heidi Johnson at Cascadia High School (CHS) welcomed

“John is joining us from the Puyallup School District where he is currently the principal of Aylen Junior High. John has a history of academic success as a teacher and administrator,” wrote Bogatin in his report. “Heidi will be doing the admin work at CHS along with some teaching duties. Heidi has a strong background in special education and spent part of this past year at CHS.”

TSD also hired Ben Rarich as the Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations, and Kira Acker as the Director of Finance & Operations.

“Ben is currently the Associate Superintendent of Finance & Operations for the Kent School District. Kira was previously the Supervisor of Food & Nutrition Service and is currently the Director of Finance & Operations for the Port Angeles School District,” Bogatin said.

Bogatin also congratulated the graduating class of 2024: 283 from Tumwater High School, 187 from Black Hills High School, 32 from Cascadia High School, and 36 from New Market High School.

“I’m really proud of the accomplishments of this group of seniors and their contributions to this district and we wish them the best as they head off into the summer and off to their next adventures that are taking them across the country and across the globe,” Bogatin said.

Bogatin also lauded the student services team for the conduct of the Day of Champions, a series of field day events for students with special needs.  (See related story.) He also praised Tumwater Hill’s marimba students performed Marimba at the Market at the Olympia Farmers Market on Sunday, June 2.
