The Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County (BGCTC) has appointed Shellica Trevino as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective July 1, 2023.

BGCTC is the local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of America. The 160-year-old nonprofit enables young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

“The positive impact we make in the community wouldn’t be possible without these groups of people,” said Trevino. “Inspiring and enabling youth to realize their greatness requires a daily commitment from all of us.

Trevino believes they can do amazing things when considering what is best for club members.

“This new role gives me the chance to work with stakeholders at all levels to benefit youth,” Trevino added in the club’s press release. “I couldn’t be more excited!”

Extensive leadership roles

Trevino has over 20 years of experience in the Boys & Girls Clubs movement. She was the Chief Operating Officer in 2021 and served twice as Interim CEO.

Trevino started as a front desk clerk on March of 2000 at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.

After moving to Olympia in 2003, she became the Program Staff, Front Desk Coordinator, Membership Manager. She then became Branch Director of the Lacey Club, which she held for nine years.

In 2015, Trevino was promoted to the Director of Operations role and managed the operations of four club locations.

Trevino also received recognition for her service, including the 2013 Maytag Dependable Leader Award, the 2013 Champion for Kids Award, and the 2019 Cool Jazz Clean Water Service Above Self Award.

Aside from the Boys & Girls Club positions, she also had multiple board positions for the Lacey Rotary Club. She became the Club President during 2019-2020 and is currently the Club Treasurer.

“Shellica’s professional development over the course of her career stems from her drive to help kids,” says BGCTC Board President Kirsten Conklin. “Her experience has touched every aspect of this organization for over 18 years–she inspires staff and board members to perform at their highest level and fosters the idea of leadership by example.”

Outgoing CEO Chris Woods

Chris Woods served as the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Thurston County since April 2019.

His new role as the new Superintendent of Yelm School Board was effective July 1, 2023, according to the school district's website.

“Chris spent the past four years serving the youth, staff, and board at Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County with his whole heart. He led us through the pandemic with strength and courage, ensuring that we remained open when families needed us most,” Trevino said in another email to the JOLT.

“We are grateful to him for the time and energy he invested here, he leaves us in a great place financially and operationally. I have every confidence Chris will serve the Yelm community well, prioritizing youth above all else,” Trevino shared.
