I know spring has returned because the baby squirrels have arrived at the bird feeder outside my window. Our local communities are awake and filing up with activities – let’s begin with the local senior centers:
Low Vision Group 2nd Monday each month 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Discussion topics include low-vision services, new products, local community resources, letting go of fear and embracing life with confidence. Open to the Public
Digital Literacy: 1st& 3rd Thursday 10 – 11:30
The Thurston County Chamber of Commerce will return with free computer classes, open to the public. You can join this group to explore a variety of topics, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and learn ways to protect your privacy while navigating online. (My boss is probably hoping I take this class.)

Mosaic Crochet: Thursday 2-4
This class is for members only, to learn the fascinating technique of Mosaic Crochet! These intricate and beautiful designs are amazing and, according to the instructor, amazingly easy to learn. Participants must bring their own yarn and crochet supplies.
Lacey 4th Thursday 2 - 4
What is a Death Cafe? At a Death Café, people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.
There is no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.
Death Journaling: Thursdays, 9/12, 10/19, 11/16, 12/14
You are invited to spend 90 minutes with Death Doula and Grief Coach Aypril Porter, creating your personal death journal. A death journal is a notebook that you will use to record your thoughts, wishes, memories, and more. You can use it to explore your thoughts on end-of-life topics and what kind of funeral or memorial service you’d hope for so your loved ones can understand and fulfill your wishes. This is also a legacy project where you can share your favorite memories, quotations, scripture, or anything important to you.
American Sign Language: Wednesday 2 -3
It can take up to two years to be fluent in American Sign Language, but this is a step in the right direction. Catherin is volunteering her knowledge and time in hopes that the opportunity to learn this unique language is accessible to our members. Members Only + free
Owning the Age I am: Every 4th Wednesday 1:30 - 3
Come listen, learn, and share. An ongoing discussion for persons in late life — the older you are, the better. Share what you are doing and learning, your joys and challenges. Learn more about the age you are. You can drop in and out as it fits your ability to attend. There is no charge for the group. Open to Public
Dance Socials: Tuesday 1:30-3:30
This exceptionally popular weekly event has returned to the Lacey Senior Center! Dance and/or listen to Swing Stuff, a live five-piece band who know how to get your feet moving. No partner necessary. Due to the nature of this event, face masks are highly recommended. All skill levels welcome. Coffee and snacks provided. Members $7; Public $10

A Night on The Town – April 19
A Night on The Town is a fun evening which starts with a one-of-a-kind live auction and finishes with the much-anticipated after-party with exceptional musical performances. This event connects the world of learning and the world of work. Join us as the education and business communities gather together to support the leaders of today who are inspiring leaders of tomorrow.

Volunteer Work Party
10 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Saturday, April 20, 2024 | Tumwater Historical Park. Each year, Tumwater Parks & Recreation teams up with the PARC Foundation to celebrate Earth Day. Join other volunteers in a service project to improve one of Tumwater’s most popular parks.
This year, they need help planting shrubs and trees, and removing invasive plants and debris at Tumwater Historical Park. Tools, gloves, water, and light refreshments will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for working outdoors. This event will be held rain or shine. To sign up, click here.
