Quiltmakers of Olympia show this weekend

Posted

I recently had the opportunity to learn all about the Quiltmakers of Olympia from members Diane and Penny. They have an upcoming Quilt Show on October 4 and 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Olympia that is worth the trip. This event promises to be a delightful experience for all attendees, featuring a beautiful array of quilts, giveaways, raffles, a quilters attic, and a Cub Scout bake sale. This one should be on your radar.

This article is all about the Quilt Show, but I will definitely be writing another article all about the Quiltmakers Guild. They have 100 members, eight of whom turn 90 this year and all went to high school together. Diane and Penny let me know that once you turn 90, there are no more dues for the guild. I can’t wait to tell you all the good they do together.

This Friday and Saturday for just $5 at the door, you can have access to a kaleidoscope of stunning quilts crafted by talented local members. Whether you prefer vintage patterns or contemporary designs, this show has something for everyone. Attendees can admire a diverse collection of quilts that range in color, size, and style, each telling its own unique story. Additionally, guests will find an array of handmade dolls and wearables, showcasing the craftsmanship of local artisans.

Some say that every quilt tells a story. This quilt tells the story of a family.

Feeling lucky? This Quilt Show will offer several themed gift baskets to raffle off, including categories like "Pie of the Month," "Family Art Supplies," and "Chocolate." Raffle tickets are available for just $1 each, providing a fun and affordable way to support the guild. Attendees can also enter to win exquisite quilts: a vintage piece, a contemporary quilt made by a guild member, and a vibrant community quilt crafted collectively by multiple members.

For families attending the event, there will be a special kids' raffle quilt, with tickets offered free of charge—one per child. Youngsters can also participate in a mini scavenger hunt, earning additional tickets as they explore the show.

The guild's Boutique will feature an assortment of unique gift items handmade for this occasion, perfect for finding that special something. Thrifty shoppers will appreciate the Quilters' Attic, which will offer gently used quilting and sewing supplies alongside an extensive selection of fabrics. A variety of vendors will also be present, showcasing wonderful gift items and essential sewing supplies. Attendees can even bring scissors, knives, and other tools for sharpening while they enjoy the beauty of the quilts on display.

This might just be one of the beautiful handmade quilts you can see this Friday and Saturday at the Quiltmakers of Olympia show.

Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Quiltmakers of Olympia, a non-profit organization dedicated to community service. Each year, the guild provides approximately 200 quilts and other essential items to various charities in Thurston County. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Community Service display to learn more about these impactful efforts.

This Quilt Show is not just for seasoned quilters; it welcomes individuals of all skill levels and interests. Whether you're a long-time quilting enthusiast or someone who simply admires the artistry, the event promises to be an engaging and enjoyable experience. Even if quilting jargon like "FQs," "BOMs," or "PIGS" is foreign to you, the community atmosphere and inspiring displays will make for a memorable visit.

Mark your calendars for this exciting two-day event. Join the Quiltmakers of Olympia at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 1601 North Street SE, Olympia on October 4 and 5, and immerse yourself in the warmth of creativity, community, and craftsmanship. Bring your friends and family, say “hi” to Penny and Diane, and be prepared to be inspired!

Curious. The map accompanying this article is clearly from a Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in some Scandinavian country. The street names are not those of Olympia at all.
