Puget Sound Energy issues energy resources request for proposals

Posted

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has announced a Voluntary All-Source Request for Proposals (RFP) for energy from renewable and non-emitting resources.

This RFP comes in connection to the PSE 2023 Electric Progress report, outlining PSE’s aim to meet their customers’ needs as well as an ongoing effort to procure necessary resources by 2030.

The RFP seeks to address the significant energy and capacity requirements in compliance with Washington’s Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA).

PSE has announced that they are open to power purchase agreements, ownership, or alternative arrangements using commercially proven technology.

"PSE is undergoing the most significant transformation in our history as we strive to meet Washington state’s clean energy laws—some of the most ambitious in the nation,” said Ron Roberts, PSE’s senior vice president of energy resources. “We need to make sure we can deliver on our customers’ expectations for energy that is clean as well as safe, reliable and affordable.”

Filed with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission on July 1, the RFP will ensure an accessible and fair process for all bidders, including minority, women, disabled, and veteran-owned businesses.

Proposals are due by September 16, 2024.

This move is part of PSE’s commitment to becoming a Beyond Net Zero Carbon company by 2045, targeting net zero carbon emissions and supporting statewide carbon reduction.

And so it begins. I hope you all vote yes on I-2066 to preserve your ability to make this transition when you can afford it and it is safe to do so.
