Olympia receives 7 proposals for discrimination assessment

Posted

The Social Justice and Equity Commission, on Monday, November 28, received seven proposals for a discrimination assessment, according to Diversity, Equity and Inclusive program manager Tobi Hill-Meyer.

The commission sought request for proposals (RFP) for discrimination assessment on October 25 to develop guiding principles and values that can support decision-making, including:

  • What types of discrimination (housing, employment, others) are most prominent
  • What kinds of interventions would be most effective
  • Sense of belonging and safety in the community
  • Perception of the city
  • Any areas of concern that the city should address

At a meeting yesterday, the commissioner started working on the process of evaluating the consultants and consultant teams who responded to the RFP.

Commissioners Rachelle Martin, Wesley Nguyen, and Fauziya Mohemadi volunteered to do the scoring for the candidates.

Hill-Meyer said she would notify other commissioners who were not at the meeting yesterday if they want to participate in the scoring process.  They will review and score seven proposals with a total of 105 pages.

The commissioners will evaluate the proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Quality and methodology of the proposed approach and timeline for the project
  • Demonstrated understanding, expertise, and lived experience of key project team members in the following areas
  • Discrimination and general DEI concepts
    • Racial justice
    • Disability Justice
    • Transgender Justice
    • LGBTQ+ Justice
    • Immigrant Justice
    • Class Justice
  • Demonstrated survey experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the city
  • Previous experience on similar projects
  • Cost of proposed work

The deadline for scoring the candidates' proposals is Monday, December 5.

Hill-Meyer said she had scheduled the interview for the finalists sometime in December.

Taxpayer money is being spent on this?! It's easy to spend other people's money so you can pat yourself on the back for how great of a person you are.

Thank you, Olympia, for at least attempting to put mouth service to the widespread discrimination people who want to be housed experience.

I don't expect anyone coming from the able-bodied Caucasian male experience to understand how difficult it is to find a home when the only people being considered are abled, Caucasian and childless, but it is a real issue in this city.

Thank you for beginning to address the widespread issues that are experienced by Olympia's citizens.

Take GmaMaggie’s comment and replace “Caucasian” with any other ethnic group and it would be overtly racist. Housing isn’t free and the only barrier to entry is the ability to pay for it.

Wasting taxpayer money on DEI only robs resources from programs that could help those in need.

Please!! Transgender Justice and LGBTQ Justice? When did sexual preference justify the need to justice? I do not see Unicorns on the list.
