An Olympia man was arrested on Sat., Oct. 9, after he allegedly stole a bottle of champagne and sushi from a grocery store and attempted to strike a retail employee.

The employee told Olympia police that the suspect, identified by authorities as Allan Wilson Bullaoit Abad, 33, came up to the self-checkout counter and asked an employee to check out his items.

According to the police report, Abad became upset when he was informed that he needed to check out the items by himself.

The employee told police that Abad then attempted to kick him but missed. The suspect allegedly tried “several times” to use the champagne bottle to strike the employee and then exited the store with the items without paying.

The police report noted that the employee managed to get the license plate of the vehicle that Abad entered through the passenger side after leaving the store.

Another police officer later spotted the vehicle and found the suspect in the driver’s seat.

The officer said that although Abad was detained without incident, he was “verbal with officers and somewhat slow to follow commands.”

Police let go of the only passenger, who owned the vehicle, after determining that there was no probable cause to detain him. The passenger’s father later claimed the vehicle.

Abad was booked at the Thurston County Jail for second-degree robbery.
