An Olympia man was arrested on suspicion of smashing a stranger’s sliding door, sending glass shards across her apartment.

Conor Mackenzie Brown, 20, was arrested on October 18 after a report of malicious mischief in the 300 block of Kenyon Street NW at around 2:40 a.m.

The reporting party told police that she was woken up by the sound of her glass door breaking. She said she did not hear anyone enter her apartment, but the front door was unlocked.

There were no nearby surveillance cameras, but a trail of broken glass ran from the glass door to the front door, according to the police report.

After clearing the scene, an officer noticed a man, later identified as Brown, walking in front of the apartment. Brown was bleeding from the knuckles and had glass shards all over him, the officer said.

Police asked Brown to sit down, at which point they noticed a blue handle sticking out of his pocket. An officer took out the object and saw that it was a hatchet with broken glass on it. Police also yielded a pocketknife from the suspect and found glass shards in his pockets.

Asked about the break-in, Brown told police that he did it to escape “tweakers” who were chasing him. He did not elaborate, police said, but continued to mumble about the "tweakers."

Brown was booked into the Thurston County Jail for first-degree burglary and making or having burglary tools.
