Oly Town FC still unbeaten at home after fizzling out Vancouver Lightning, 15-2

The lads of Oly Town FC continued their flying start in the current Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season as they humiliated league newcomers and division rivals Vancouver Lightning in a 15-2 dismantling in front of a sellout crowd in the Evergreen State College Pavilion last December 10, Saturday evening.

Hat tricks from Oly Town core players Manny Nicasio and Kasey Sidor, a brace from Alan Barragan, and additional goals from Nate Boatright, Raymundo Curiel, Brian Lincona, Alex Lopez, and Jordan Zimmerman, along with top goalkeeping performances from Isaiah Damschen and Colin Hauser secured the dominant 15-2 win for the Artesians, marking this as this season’s largest winning margin for any team in the league by far.

The Artesians came before kickoff oozing with confidence after a three-game winning streak, which includes their first ever win against Everett City away from home in the latest fixture, while their opponents were still finding their groove as league newbies with all four of their past fixtures ending in defeat. Both teams met in a preseason friendly earlier in October, where Oly Town won 12-6.

And the wide gap between the two teams wasas clearly shown in the opening minutes as the Artesians already scored six goals past this poor Vancouver-based team in the first quarter, with Manny Nicasio and Kasey Sidor already scoring twice while Alex Lopez and Brian Lincona added to the goalfest early on to make it 6-0 already in the first fifteen minutes.

At this point, it’s already men against boys as Nicasio and Sidor completed their hat tricks early in the second period, while Raymond Curiel added another one to make it nine goals unanswered at halftime. Isaiah Damschen was the man between the posts for Oly Town in the first half and was unbeaten at his goal with six saves.

Despite the high lead, Oly Town maintained discipline as they kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half, thanks to rotation of a deep squad through coach Nick Boatright that retained his players’ fresh legs and relentless mentality on outperforming their rivals.

It was not until eight minutes in the third period where Oly Town had finally gave up a goal after a mistake from substitute goalkeeper Colin Hauser made the scoreline 11-1. Despite that, Hauser remained sharp between the gates and contributed nine saves for the whole duration of the second half.

The Artesians would go on and score more goals to make it 15-2, in a shutout victory that further extends their winning streak at home to ten games in 22 months under the coaching of Nick Boatright. Stats from the official WISL website highlighted the dominance of this Oly Town side in the match as they recorded 46 shots compared to Vancouver’s 17.

“I have told them before the game that they have been a good team so far this season, but I want them to be a great team, and to take those steps is stressing the mentality piece was the biggest thing.” said Coach Nick Boatright in a postmatch interview.

The lads will have a month-long break for the holidays and WISL play will return to the fortress that is the Evergreen State Pavilion on January 6th as the Artesians will take on the Snohomish Steelheads who are currently winless in four games. Kickoff would be at 6 p.m.
