Movies at the Marina to return to Port of Olympia

Movies at the Marina will return for its second summer, according to Port of Olympia Executive Director Sam Gibboney yesterday.

Just like last year, the Port plans to hold the outdoor event on Saturday nights. The events will run July 31, Aug. 14 and  Aug. 21 at the Swantown Marina’s boat trailer parking lot at NorthPoint.

“We are excited to announce the return of the Movies at the Marina,” Gibboney shared.  Admission is free and available for all ages. However, the Port requires reservations, and tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis only.

Those planning to attend the event are encouraged to bring blankets as it can get chilly at night. The Port promises to treat movie watchers to a family-friendly movie and beautiful waterfront views. The audience can also purchase snacks at food concession stands which are planned to be available during the event.

“Our team is working on some exciting changes for this season’s event, and more information will be posted soon,” Gibboney said. She also encouraged interested residents to visit the Port of Olympia site to learn more about Movies at the Marina.

The Port is seeking sponsors for the evenings; packages run from $200 to $2,000.

The event started in August 2020 as an opportunity for residents to bond and socialize despite the social distancing restrictions. Organizers also opted to show child-friendly movies like Trolls and Jurassic Park.

Currently, the Port is yet to announce the movie list for 2021.
