Construction of Thurston County's Marvin Road Corridor Improvement Project began on Monday, Sept. 9, and will continue through the summer of 2025.
The initial phase of the project will be the segment of Marvin Road from Union Mills Road to 22nd Avenue, the Thurston County Public Works stated in a press release on Thursday, Sept 5.
The project aims to bring several changes to the area, mainly through a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Marvin Road and 19th Avenue, which provides the entrance to the Laurel Oaks neighborhood.
South of Union Mills Road a railroad crossing will be removed to reduce traffic jams.
Ten-foot-wide sidewalks will also be constructed on both sides of Marvin Road.
Other planned improvements include new road markings and upgrades to the water and sewer system. The speed limit from 22nd Avenue to Union Mills Road will also be lowered to 35 mph to make the road safer.
Public Works advised motorists to expect alternative one-way traffic on the road or to use alternate routes. Temporary water or sewer service interruptions may occur but not without Lacey first notifying its residents in advance.
CORRECTION: September 12, 2024. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that this is a City of Lacey project.
