Mapathé Diop Workshop - Traditional Drumming of Senegal

Washington State Parks Folk & Traditional Arts Program and Arbutus Folk School are excited to host guest artists and Master Drummer Mapathé Diop for a free workshop to learn about and enjoy the traditional drumming of Senegal. Participants will learn about the importance of this musical tradition and enjoy performances as well as a chance to try playing the drums themselves!

Mapathé Diop is a Master Drummer from Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. Mapathé has drummed his entire life as part of a hereditary caste of griot entertainers among the Wolof people. He performs at traditional ceremonies, parties, concerts, and more across West Africa and the West Coast of the United States.
