A 39-year old man said to have a mental illness has been arrested by authorities after trespassing in a residential area.

Tumwater Police Department (TPD) officers were dispatched to Trosper Cement Products at 2100 Trosper Road SW following a trespassing complaint on May 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The property owner reported a male, who had previously been trespassed (advised not to enter) the location attempting to break into her trailer.

The suspect was seen wearing a green jacket with a hood lined with light fur.

The owner informed dispatch that the suspect was trying to pull the electrical cord out of her trailer window.

Responding officers arrived on the scene and were directed to the trailer by the property owner.

Upon announcing their presence, the suspect appeared in the doorway of the trailer's bedroom.

Authorities, who recognized the suspect from prior incidents and aware of his mental health issues, arrested and put him in handcuffs.

Based on my previous contacts with [the suspect], he suffers from mental health issues. I advised him he was being audio and video recorded,” the responding officer stated in the police report.

The owner confirmed that the trailer door, found open, should have been locked.

The owner has also provided a CCTV footage showing the suspect walking by the front door of her house and heading towards the trailer adjacent to the residence.

During a body search following the arrest, officers found a clear plastic container of 22.2 grams of a crystal white substance on the suspect.

The suspect was booked into Thurston County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary.

So many of our locals fit this description - mental illness that consumes potent drugs and supports all that with criminal activity. Jail time seems the best solution, protect us will enforcing some degree of sobriety. Sadly, this problem in some form as old as society.

HO, screw you. Jailing folks w/ mental health issues helps no one, not you. not them. Your assumption the person arrested was high is nothing more than your projection and fear. Grow the fck up.

There are more and more like this fellow wandering around Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater each year. They scream at the trees, wander out into traffic, or sitting at intersections begging for drug money. Yet illegal migrants are provided for much better than the elderly and homeless by the Inslee administration. Ask yourself how many millions have been provided in grants from the Feds and the State - where did it go, what good was gained?

It seems TheGreatAnon didn’t read the entire article. Care to hazard a guess what the 22 grams of white substance might be? I’ll go out on a limb and say it wasn’t sugar.

People with mental health issues don’t get a free pass to destroy property and commit burglary. Many people with mental health issues in our community can thank heavy drug use for their condition. At some point for them it was a deliberate choice to start using, but most can’t muster the willpower to stop without help. Involuntary confinement without access to drugs is exactly what these addicts need. If that means jail, it’s not ideal but better than nothing. Jail is far more compassionate than leaving them to sort it out on the street… which they won’t.
