Unable to prove that he had fired his gun twice at an intruder, a Lacey man was arrested after one of the bullets went through a neighbor’s trailer on Fri., June 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Jeffrey Chad Gunstone, 52, of Lacey, was witnessed by several residents of the Crestwood Mobile Home Park, looking into vehicles, running around houses and being chased away when spotted by neighbors.

Lacey police contacted Gunstone, a resident of the park, who told them that he had shot a .45 caliber handgun inside of his trailer, firing it at an intruder who had broken in.

Police say Gunstone appeared to be disoriented, speaking in short, abrupt statements, first telling police that he had been at home alone and fired at an unknown intruder, then changing his story to one in which he was at home with a friend when two people arrived and threatened him. Gunstone did not identify who the friend was nor who the intruders were. A neighbor told police that they had heard two gunshots and that a bullet at hit their front door. An officer traced the bullet’s path back to Gunstone’s trailer and discovered a second bullet hole in the ceiling of Gunstone’s carport.

According to the police report, Gunstone could not explain who the person was or where they had gone.

Gunstone was arrested for discharging a weapon and booked into the Nisqually jail.
