Man arrested after serious assault incident

Posted

Last weekend, Olympia Police Department (OPD) officers responded to an assault on the east side of town.

According to an OPD post, the incident occurred outside an apartment complex where a man was allegedly trying to start fights with residents.

“Witnesses reported the suspect walked over to a male who was sitting with a friend, grabbed him by the shirt, and threw him to the ground. The suspect then ‘stomped’ on the victim’s head, causing him to go immediately unconscious,” OPD stated in the post.

The suspect then fled into nearby woods.

Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) K9 unit responded to assist with tracking the suspect.

With the witnesses’ statements, officers promptly establishing a perimeter, and the assistance of the K9 unit, the suspect was located and arrested.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect was booked into Thurston County Jail for first-degree assault. The investigation into this incident is currently ongoing.

Living in the area, I was feeding my feral cat when a commotion erupted. People were yelling, a woman screamed "Let him go!", and I likely heard the noise of someone stomping. Then, I saw a shirtless man running down Applehill Street. Shortly after, a police car approached the hill and closed off the entrance to my neighborhood.

It was horrific to witness, even just by listening.

I sincerely hope the victim is alright.

Since the arrival of the shelter, residents of Unity Commons, myself included, have been voicing concerns about dangerous behavior and suspected drug use/dealing in our streets. It's a shame, as we're a good community.

Our children can no longer safely play outside like they used to.
