The Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation (LPCR) Board has proposed a total budget of $3,473,038 for the year 2024.

LPCR Manager Sue Falash said this is a status quo from the 2023 budget during the board’s meeting on November 1.

According to the staff report, the budget is divided into ten programs, which include

  • General Services
  • Youth/Teens
  • Recreation Administration
  • Aquatics
  • Physical Activities/Sports
  • Cultural Arts and Events
  • Outdoor Activities
  • Special Events/Activities
  • Museum Operations
  • Volunteer Programs.

“The department's goals and priorities for each program area include enhancing performance measures, community engagement, and exploring marketing opportunities,” the budget report read.

LCPR also aims to address challenges related to staff recruitment and retention, particularly in the aquatics program, and offer new programs to increase participation in various activities.

Most recreation programs and classes are funded through user fees, with some exceptions for special events and the Summer Playground Pals Program.

LCPR also collaborates with Thurston County to manage a county-wide recreation program and financially supports “Senior Services for South Sound” at the Virgil S. Clarkson Senior Center.

The department also plans to expand its special events and activities, improve museum operations, and continue to develop the LPCR volunteer program.

LPCR's mission is to create exceptional events, experiences, and environments that connect the community, enhance open spaces, and provide recreational opportunities to Lacey's residents. The department is responsible for planning and maintaining parks, trails, open spaces, and natural habitat areas to meet current and future community needs.
