Komachin Middle School bagged several prizes during the Future Business Leaders of America’s (FBLA) National Leadership Conference, including 1st place in the national organization’s National Middle-Level Merit Award.
According to the school’s FBLA chapter adviser Kate Reece, the Merit Award is a national initiative challenging chapters to organize and engage their membership in chapter management & leadership over an eight-month period.
Held at McCormick Place Convention Center, Chicago, Illinois from June 27 to July 3, the school’s four teams represented the state in several events during the meet, with two teams ending up in the top ten of their events, namely:

FBLA is a nonprofit organization focused on leading middle school, high school, and college students into business.
Komachin’s school chapter is now in its fourth year, according to Reece, led by president Satapat Tatarian, vice-president Spencer Hall, and Alyssa Childers, all 7th graders. Childers received the award on behalf of the school.
“I am in awe at the resilience of our kiddos post-COVID,” commented Reece. “It’s almost magical when you see them switch on as they realize… ‘I can do that’ … ‘I can see myself doing … that’,” and “Gives me hope for the world,” the teacher added.
Placed on hold during the pandemic, this year’s conference had over 11, 000 middle and high school students from all over the country, hosting numerous workshops and competitions.
