Junior League of Olympia introduces Club Moxie

This article is all about Club Moxie. Before I tell you how cool Club Moxie is, I must fill you in on the Junior League of Olympia. Their mission statement says it better than I can. “The Junior League of Olympia is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.” I highly recommend reviewing their work at the Junior League website.

This summer, the Junior League of Olympia is set to introduce a transformative initiative aimed at empowering young women in the South Sound community. Named Club Moxie, the inaugural event titled, I am Moxie,” is starting this August, as in next month.

Club Moxie was created as a place for young women between 6th grade and 20 years old to come together for MOtivational eXperiences and Intentional Engagement (MOXIE). Participants can expect tailored sessions appropriate for their age group, with parental consent required for attendees under 18. Admission is free, though space is limited.

The Junior League of Olympia established Club Moxie with a clear vision. According to Alyssa Burgess, VP of Operations for the Junior League, the aim is to nurture the social and emotional development of young women, fostering their growth into future leaders within the community.

“Club Moxie is more than just a series of workshops; it’s a safe haven where girls can explore and strengthen their social, emotional, and leadership skills, said Burgess. “Our goal is to create an environment where participants can build confidence, learn from mentors, and ultimately become empowered to make a positive impact in their own lives and in the community.

The initiative is supported by Junior League members who will act as mentors during the sessions. With the hope of inspiring future leaders, the league envisions that some Club Moxie participants may one day join their ranks. “We see Club Moxie as a pathway for young women to discover their potential and gain valuable skills that will serve them well beyond their formative years,” Burgess added.

This is just the beginning for Club Moxie, with plans already underway for a follow-up event in early 2025 that will delve deeper into the topics covered during the inaugural session. Themes explored will include social, physical, financial, and emotional well-being, all tailored to meet the specific needs of youth in the South Sound area.

If there is a young woman you know who might benefit from joining the upcoming session in August, please let her know about it. Session 1 will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Waldorf School, located at 8126 Normandy St. SE, Olympia. For more information about Club Moxie and to register for the event, interested participants can visit the club page at the Junior League of Olympia’s website. More information and registration are also available at the Club Moxie website. Registration is available online, and early sign-up is encouraged because of limited availability.

The Junior League of Olympia continues to uphold its mission of empowering women and advancing the well-being of youth in the community through innovative and impactful programs. As the countdown begins to the inaugural event this August, anticipation is high among participants and organizers alike for the positive changes Club Moxie will inspire in the lives of young women in Olympia and beyond.
