Joint Animal Services unveils KittenCam, extended hours, adoption events

The Joint Animal Services Commission (JASCOM) has been actively enhancing its services and community outreach efforts, executive director Sarah Hock reports.

Among its offerings is daily streaming of JASCOM's KittenCam from 10 to 11 a.m. The program will stream footage of cats and kittens in JASCOM’s kennels on LaceyTV 77 on cable and streaming services.

JASCOM has also extended its operating hours by one hour on Saturdays, aligning with its commitment to consistent service provision.  Previously closing at 4:30 p.m., JASCOM now operates from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, ensuring accessibility for community members seeking assistance or looking to adopt animals.

JASCOM collaborated with local organizations to host adoption events in recent community engagement efforts to find loving homes for animals in need.

Cirque Climbing Gym, for instance, organized a dog adoption event featuring shelter dogs and foster pets. Although no immediate adoptions occurred, the event garnered generous support from attendees, resulting in a donation of $1,400.

JASCOM has also partnered with the Lakewood Racquet Club to organize a free yoga event, showcasing four German Shepherds involved in the Mason County animal cruelty case.

Attendees not only enjoyed a relaxing yoga session but also had the opportunity to learn about the dogs and their journey, fostering compassion and understanding.

Participating in national adoption initiatives, JASCOM facilitated the adoption of 23 pets, including cats, dogs, and ferrets, during the BISSELL Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" reduced-fee adoption event.

This nationwide effort, joined by over 410 shelters across 43 states, aims to reduce pet homelessness by promoting adoption.

Additionally, JASCOM contributed to the PAWS 4 A CAUSE fundraiser, a dog-friendly walk event benefiting the American Cancer Society and the Animal Cancer Foundation.
