Joint Base Lewis McChord announced earlier today that its beaches will be closed off for swimming.

According to the base’s social media post, an incident involving a service personnel member drowning prompted the closure, pending a safety investigation.

The safety of our service members and their families is our first and foremost concern,” JBLM noted. “We will reassess the closure at the end of July and follow-up accordingly.

The base’s beaches will be closed until further notice.
