Intercity Transit no longer requires employee vaccination, stipends for getting boosters still available

Intercity Transit will no longer require its employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

The agency’s board of directors adopted a resolution on Wednesday, May 17, repealing Resolution No. 03-2021, which required Covid-19 vaccination as a condition of employment in the agency.

The directive follows the US Department of Health and Human Services’ declaration on May 11 that the federal public health emergency for COVID-19 has expired. The same day, Governor Jay Inslee also rescinded Directive 22-13.1, which required Covid-19 vaccination as a condition for employment in executive cabinet and small cabinet state agencies.

Earlier this month, the World Health Organization declared the end of the global emergency for Covid-19.

IT Interim General Manager Emily Bergkamp said senior management would adjust Intercity’s policies and procedures to align with the changes.

Stipend incentives for boosters

According to Bergkamp, around 70% of employees have received at least one booster after their initial vaccination. Should employees decide to get a Covid-19 booster, they would still be eligible for a $200 stipend for every shot.
