A man was arrested on the evening of June 8th following a disturbance at Intercity Transit on 205 Franklin Street NE.

Olympia Police Department (OPD) officers responded to a report of a male suspect, later identified as Douglas D. Thumm, yelling and threatening to assault them.

While en route, dispatch informed authorities that the suspect had assaulted a security guard.

Upon arrival, responding officers observed the suspect, a 65-year-old male wearing a Seahawks shirt and grey shorts, verbally confrontational with security.

He was identified by a hospital bracelet and appeared heavily intoxicated by “alcohol and smelled heavily of it, the reporting officer stated.

According to security guards, the suspect had urinated on a building across the bus station before approaching, where he argued with and spat on a bus driver.

When confronted by security, the suspect punched a guard in the shoulder, resulting in him being pushed back by the guard.

“He stated Douglas then advanced toward him which resulted in him pushing him again which resulted in Douglas falling to the ground,” the OPD officer stated during his interview with the security guard.

Another security personnel verified the statement of the involved security guard.

After Thumm complained of shoulder and hip pain, a medical examination was carried out and no injuries were reported.

The suspect, who had multiple warrants for theft, trespass and harassment in Thurston County and other counties, was arrested for third-degree assault and transported to Thurston County Jail.

The suspect was trespassed from Intercity Transit for a year.

Security guards should be carrying pepper spray, stun guns and batons. It is 2024, some people are severely inebriated or wired up on methamphetamine and very aggressive and extremely dangerous. Intercity Transit needs to change policies and be more willing to remove these people from buses. Buses are free but ridership is down, easy to see the connection between allowing these criminals to ride and the unwillingness of most of the public to go anywhere near a bus.
