Landslide risk Special Weather Statement

“Heavy rainfall today through Tuesday will lead to an increased threat of landslides in western Washington,” the alert detailed.

The accumulated rainfall over the last week “has increased soil moisture to moderate levels across western Washington.”

The rainfall expected is two to five inches, depending on elevation, “This amount of rain will put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased but marginal threat of landslides. Steep terrain, coastal bluffs, and slope cuts like for roadways are some of the most landslide-prone areas.”
