Half-naked man accused of threatening woman in apartment house laundry room

A Tumwater woman escaped an apartment laundry room after she says she encountered a man with an erect penis she thought wanted to rape her, at about 2 p.m. last Thu., Sept. 23.

Anthony James Dunbar, 47, a transient man living in Tumwater, allegedly entered the apartment complex laundry room at the 300 block of Israel Rd SW, with his pants and underwear down around his thighs, exposing his erect penis in his hands to a female inside the laundry room.

The woman, who does not speak English, ran out of the laundry room seeking help.

When contacted by Tumwater police, Dunbar’s pants were up, but his belt was undone, and he was barefoot and not wearing a shirt.

The woman told police through a translator that Dunbar had attempted to talk to her, his hips pulsating at her but did not make physical contact, less than two feet from her.

Police say Dunbar told them that he sometimes stays with his niece who lives in the apartment complex.

According to his statement in the police report, Dunbar had put his clothes in the laundry machine to wash them, then went into a nearby closet to change. Dunbar said he was wearing boxer briefs so he didn’t see a problem with it. Dunbar denied exposing his penis to the female victim.

Dunbar was arrested for indecent exposure and booked into the Nisqually Jail.
