Fraudulent credit card at hotel check-in leads to arrest for identity theft

Police arrested a suspect who allegedly used a fraudulent credit card to check in at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 2100 Henderson Park SE on February 28 in the afternoon.

According to the Olympia Police Department (OPD) police report, the hotel manager had alerted law enforcement and informed officers that a male guest, identified as David Pollard, checked in under a reservation purportedly affiliated with a business based in Oregon.

The credit card used to pay for the hotel stay, estimated at $448.05, did not match the name associated with the reservation, arousing suspicion.

The card, allegedly issued by Chase Bank, bore the name Jeff Diaz, but upon inspection, irregularities were noted, including misalignment of the printed name.

Further investigation revealed that attempts to contact the supposed company associated with the reservation proved futile, as the individual answering the phone refused to provide any information.

It was also discovered that a similar incident involving the same account and individual occurred at another hotel branch.

Upon questioning, the suspect claimed that he had been provided the room by an individual named Jeffrey, whom he had only communicated with through online messaging platforms.

Pollard asserted that the owner of the card would instruct him on where to go, where he would check into a hotel room arranged and paid for by this mysterious benefactor.

“David stated Jeffrey would message him where to go, and he would show up and get a hotel room,” OPD stated during their interview with the suspect.

With probable cause of the suspect using another person’s credit card, he was arrested and transported to Thurston County, where he was booked on credit card fraud and identity theft charges.
