Two men were actively fighting in the street when Olympia police arrived on Thu., Aug. 26 at about 10:20 p.m.

An Olympia police officer found Marcel Zulauf-Stewart, 26, of Olympia, on top of another man in what they called a “mounted position.” Zulauf-Stewart reportedly complied with the officer’s order to get off but would not sit on the ground as requested by officers. The other man was bleeding from his face, on the ground moaning, while Zulauf-Stewart was yelling that he had “kicked” the victim’s ass.

A witness stated that the other man and Zulauf-Stewart verbally engaged each other, according to the police report, and that Zulauf-Stewart “clearly” dominated the fight.

The other man told officers that he was listening to his music when Zulauf-Stewart attacked him. Zulauf-Stewart said that the other man had swung at him first.

Despite bleeding from his mouth and swelling on the right side of his face and head, the other man, age 31, listed by police as a transient living in Olympia, refused medical attention and walked away from the scene.

Zulauf-Stewart had to be placed in the WRAP restraint device after he refused to get into the police car. He was taken to the Olympia jail, where he was booked for assault.
