Did you know about the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts?

For now, it’s a pop-up, ending Saturday – with a gala event Friday night

Posted

The Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts (TCMoFA) is here but almost gone again.

The all-volunteer project is operating a pop-up art gallery (nothing’s for sale) at the Olympia Armory Creative Campus, which the city received from the Washington Military Department in February 2022. The experiment opened to the public last Saturday, July 8, and is set to close this Saturday, July 14.

Actually, the gallery is located in the Armory’s outbuilding, located behind the main building. Some 27 artists are represented, including painters, sculptors, carvers and fabric artists.

This Friday night the building will be the scene of a “Gala & Dance Party” that is free and for all ages, from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts has emerged only three times in its short life, at the most recent two ArtsWalk events and now.

The six individuals behind the TCMoFA include photographer David Hoekje, who told The JOLT that the organization plans more pop-up galleries, but no permanent location is in the works for now. Membership is $20 and includes communications about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities with the group. Click here for more information.

"The Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts (TCMoFA) is here but almost gone again."

$20 for membership? You can't even buy two burgers with fries and drinks at Burger King for that. You're either getting a super deal, or getting what you pay for, which apparently isn't much judging by the museum's longevity.
