Sheriff’s deputies engaged in a car chase, going after a felon charged with violating a protection order.

On the night of June 25, Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) deputies responded to a call in the Yelm area regarding a protection order violation.

According to the TCSO, the suspect, had called the victim, informing her of his arrival to violate the order, and appearing impaired during the call.

Deputies responded and located the suspect’s vehicle, which was already damaged from a collision.

Upon attempting to stop the car, the suspect fled, which led to a pursuit, as seen in the police car video footage. A new law now allows pursuit for domestic violence order violations.

A deputy successfully performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect’s vehicle, causing the driver to flee on foot.

“When the first deputy caught up to the suspect, the suspect quickly turned around and punched the deputy in the mouth, splitting the deputy’s lip open,” TCSO stated in the news release.

The second deputy threatened to shoot the suspect with a less-lethal round before multiple deputies arrived and apprehended the suspect without further incident.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle uncovered psychedelic mushrooms and a handgun.

The suspect, a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history, had recently been released from prison.

“Previously, he fled from the exact same deputy in November of 2020 in the Yelm area where he rammed the gate to the Clearwood Community during a pursuit,” TCSO further stated.

The suspect faces charges of violation of a protection order, driving under the influence, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, obstructing, unlawful possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a controlled substance, and third-degree assault.

The injured deputy received medical attention at the hospital and is on leave while he recovers.

Thurston County Superior Court Judge Anne Egeler released the suspect on $15,000 bail afterward.

Go get 'em, deputies! TCSO rocks! This scofflaw felon believed himself above the law? Didn't rehabilitate a lick in prison? Back you go, punk.

A fine person to be sure. Felon, violated a protection order, assaulted law officer. Worthy of some extended jail time, hopefully the judge will do their part to lock 'em up for a very long time.
