Formally states 'equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination are among the basic, inalienable moral rights of every person.'

The Thurston Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) officially declared June 2024 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, emphasizing the importance of equality, liberty, and justice for all residents.

This proclamation comes as a part of the broader national recognition of Pride Month, which commemorates the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, widely acknowledged as the catalyst for the LGBTQ rights movement.

In a formal resolution, the Board underscored that "equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination are among the basic, inalienable moral rights of every person."

They called on the community to embrace these principles and work towards eliminating prejudice in all its forms.

The resolution highlighted the foundational values of the nation, noting that "our nation was founded on principles that every individual has been created equal and with indefinite dignity and worth."

It further stated, "Thurston County is strengthened by and thrives upon the rich diversity of ethnic, cultural, racial, gender, and sexual identities of its residents; all of which contribute to the vibrant character of our County."

Reflecting on the progress made by the LGBTQ+ community, the proclamation celebrated "the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community and their hard-won victories to advance acceptance and equality."

The BOCC expressed a unified stance to "defend and build on the progress of the LGBTQ+ community toward a better, more inclusive, and safer future for all."

The Board also encourages all residents to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by members of the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month.

"We stand together, united, to defend and build on the progress of the LGBTQ+ community toward a better, more inclusive, and safer future for all," the resolution stated.

As June unfolds, Thurston County will see various celebrations and activities that honor LGBTQ+ Pride Month, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and acceptance throughout the region.  Click here for more information.

It’s disappointing that the JOLT is curating the responses. I had made a comment here and it was deleted. I had asked a reasonable question and made a statement that our government should stop wasting their time and our money proclaiming things that are already true.

    Kind sir,

Thank you for another completely incomprehensible response. You either need Jesus or an old fashioned exorcism. Good luck out there in the real world, it must be tough for you.

    Cheers,

P.S. Your reckless use of the shift-key is a crime against humanity.
