Capitol Little League announced on Saturday, July 13, that it will launch a girls’ softball program for the first time this fall season.

Signups opened on July 15 and will continue until August 7. Teams will be finalized by August 10.

The league’s softball program this fall season will have three divisions — U8 AA Coach Pitch for ages 7 and 8, U10 Minor Player Pitch for ages 9 and 10, and U12 Major Player Pitch for ages 11 and 12. The age of the players will be based on the calendar year and their age on December 31.

The registration fee ranges from $100 to $150 and will include jerseys and socks. Shorts or pants must be provided by the parents.

The games will span six weeks, with the first game scheduled on August 17 and the inaugural season closing on October 6.

“We were approached by softball folks about trying to do a Fall Little League Girls Softball along with our Coed Baseball Fall season. It's something we have been considering for some time but recently had the door open a bit and we decided to walk through it,” Capitol Little League President Loris Gies told The JOLT.

Gies added that she has no expectations about what the turnout will be for the girls program, but she noted that it is likely that they could have games with teams from Yelm, DuPont, and possibly Gig Harbor for the U12 division.

Parents looking to register their children may check the league’s website for more information. Those with questions may contact the league at (360) 250-5083 or email .
