A Bucoda man accused of domestic violence was arrested early yesterday morning after spending hours hiding in an attic.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported in its social media release that deputies were dispatched to a Bucoda residence after a reported assault. The victim came out when authorities arrived, but the suspect barricaded himself in, claiming to be armed.

Deputies learned that the suspect had an active felony warrant for a prior second-degree assault and an escape warrant for second-degree robbery.

Law enforcement at the scene established probable cause for second-degree assault and obtained a warrant to enter the home and seize the suspect. The SWAT team and crisis negotiators were also deployed to the residence.

After hours of attempted negotiations and the suspect’s continued refusal to exit, the SWAT team entered the home at around 2:25 a.m. yesterday and found the suspect hiding in the attic.

The suspect was booked for his prior warrants and new domestic violence charges. He remains in custody.
