The Evergreen State College's cross country teams competed in their last invitational run before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship, taking part in the George Oja Invite hosted by Linfield University at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Salem, Oregon on Saturday, October 19.
With the Geoducks wrapping up their preparations ahead of the conference championships, it was Max Baeder and Mara Schwenneker leading both fielded teams.
Baeder placed 47th out of 260 participants from various schools along with non-affiliated athletes in the men’s 8k run after completing the course at 25:44.80.
Other participants of the 8k running for the Evergreen banner include freshman runner Luis Esquivel, clocking at 27:40.60 for a 140th place finish, Osvaldo Calderon registering a time of 27:46.40, Rowan Hicks timing in at 28:11.30, Harlan Estrada Jr. crossing the line at 29:20.70, and Cooper Osborn and River Scheuerell finishing above the 30-minute mark.
The Evergreen men’s team ranked 16th out of 23 schools and running clubs who fielded at least five participants. The individual winner went to University of Portland’s Bradley Peloquin as he crossed the finish line first with a time of 23:52.20, while also leading the Pilots to win the team event.
Meanwhile, Schwenneker led the women’s team in the 6k run after clocking at 25:18.60, which is a personal best and good enough for a 108th place finish out of 180 runners. Joining her in the athletes running under Evergreen State are Maddie Morgan finishing the race at 30:45.20, Olivia Pare achieving the finish at 32:28.80, and Nadya Miller at 41:20.30.
Oregon State claimed the women's team championship, led by the women’s individual champ Sage Brooks who timed in at 20:41.70. Interestingly, Evergreen State’s indoor track star and national qualifier from last fall Alauna Carstens ran unattached and won second place with a speedy time finish of 20:48.60.
