On the evening of October 16, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies responded to an incident in the Nisqually Valley area, where a male suspect allegedly committed heinous animal cruelty.

TCSO, in a social media post, stated that “a male suspect slit the throat of someone’s dog, shot it, and rolled the deceased dog down an embankment toward the Nisqually River.”

The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Authorities identified the perpetrator and recovered the deceased dog from the river bank.

Yesterday, the suspect was arrested and subsequently booked into the Thurston County Jail and booked for 1st-degree animal cruelty.

The suspect was also booked for unlawful possession of a firearm as the suspect is allegedly a convicted felon.

In 2019, the Senate and the former President passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, which expanded federal animal protections. The Washington state law about Animal Cruelty in the first degree cites that “Animal cruelty in the first degree is a class C felony.”
