I agree with the writers of the letter to CMII. I am not a fringe member of the community. I thought the excessive force used by Ryan Donald showed drastic lack of judgement. All that for a case of shoplifting?

Not for a minute do I defend shoplifters. Retailers lose a ton of money to shoplifting. It does hurt them!

However, the degree to which officer Ryan Donald pursued the men (by the way, Thompson and Chaplin were not youths--they were men and knew what they had done was wrong) looked like a provocation---over nothing. Why was Ryan so convinced he had to exert forceful control, including the use of deadly force, against a couple of shoplifters?

His actions showed an complete lack of perspective. He was 'way out of line.

WE DEFINITELY NEED POLICE and I am inclined to support them in their difficult job, however, there is something WRONG in that shooting of 2 men because of unsuccessful shoplifting.

I support reform and retraining. We send policemen out to do difficult, dangerous work. We need to make them better at it. But we aren't going to see improvements without calling out the failures.

I support police reform. And I am NOT a fringe member of society.
