Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking witnesses to a July incident on Interstate 5 near Tacoma where a shot was fired at a passing motorist.

On the evening of Monday, July 24, the victim was driving a light blue Toyota Sienna minivan on northbound I-5 near 38th Street, according to the WSP in a press release. The minivan moved toward the 38th Street/State Route 16 exit and was followed by a dark blue GMC Yukon that slowed traffic.

As the victim merged to exit to South 38th Street, one of the occupants of the Yukon took out a black handgun and fired one round at the minivan, hitting the trunk hatch, the WSP said. No one was hurt in the incident.

The WSP said the suspect vehicle was described as a 1999 to 2005 model with an Alaska license plate.

“Witnesses have so far been unable to provide investigators with any further information about the suspect or vehicle,” the news release stated.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact Detective Travis Calton at 360-918-4032.
