Update: Winter weather advisory extended for Thurston County

A winter weather advisory was extended for Thurston County by the National Weather Service on Sunday morning, Feb. 2.

The advisory, which is in effect until 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, anticipates snow in the region.

"Snow showers expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches," the advisory states. "Best chances for higher accumulations (are) North Coast and Northwest Interior."

Travel could also be difficult in the region because of hazardous conditions.

"(Sub-freezing) temperatures combined with leftover moisture could produce slick roads in the late night and morning hours," the advisory states.

A winter weather advisory was issued for Thurston County by the National Weather Service on Friday, Jan. 31.

The advisory, which is in effect from 10 p.m. on Friday until 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, anticipates snow in the region. Total snow accumulation could be up to 3 inches in some areas.

“Snow totals will be localized in nature due to isolated snow showers,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said in the advisory. Not all locations will receive accumulating snow tonight through Saturday.”

The advisory also calls on motorists to slow down and use caution while driving, as well as encouraging people to prepare for possible power outages.

A NWS forecast calls for an overnight low of 33 degrees with a daytime high near 41 degrees on Saturday. Rain and snow showers are in the evening forecast with snow possible after 7 p.m. 

The low should be around 29 degrees with a south wind of about 6 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

The forecast for Sunday, Feb. 2, calls for snow showers before 1 p.m., then rain and snow showers with a high of 39 degrees and a south wind of 6 to 8 mph.
