A stolen vehicle alert led authorities to a westside business parking lot in Olympia, which resulted in the arrest of two people and the seizure of drugs, thousands of dollars in cash and a firearm on Saturday, June 22.
According to an Olympia Police Department social media post, the incident began when officers received a hit from their Flock Safety camera system, alerting them to a stolen car entering city limits.
Authorities located the vehicle parked outside a commercial strip in 1200 block of Cooper Point Road SW, and then began monitoring the area while awaiting backup.
As police moved in, one suspect attempted to flee into a nearby business, but was arrested without incident. A second individual was also taken into custody at the scene.
According to investigators, both suspects, identified by police records as Donny Rue Winbush and Erika Rene Reynolds, appeared to be aware the vehicle was stolen.
Upon searching the recovered car, authorities said they discovered a stolen firearm, more than $7,000 in cash, and a significant supply of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine and assorted pills.
Police also recovered tools commonly associated with drug sales, such as digital scales and packaging supplies.
Both suspects were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. It was discovered that Rue was also wanted on an active felony warrant from the Washington State Department of Corrections.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, with detectives pursuing additional charges related to narcotics, firearm possession and identity theft crimes.
