Traffic Advisory

Tumwater's Capitol Boulevard at Trosper Road transitions to roundabout

The traffic signal is to be removed tomorrow

Posted

At long last, the traffic signal at the Capitol Boulevard and Trosper Road intersection will be taken out on April 9, with temporary striping and channelizing devices in the area to guide drivers through a single-lane roundabout setup.

The transition to a roundabout comes as part of the ongoing Capitol Boulevard Corridor Improvements projects.

The project will focus on completing the roundabout central island and the approaching splitter islands over the next 6-8 weeks, with both lanes expected to open upon completion.

Drivers heading northbound on I-5 will find the exit at Trosper Road open, providing access to the newly implemented roundabout for travel east or west towards Capitol Boulevard or Littlerock Road.

The northbound I-5 on-ramps from both westbound and eastbound Trosper Road are operational.

For those seeking alternate routes, drivers traveling westbound on Trosper Road can utilize 6th Avenue to Lee Street, while the Tumwater Boulevard detour route remains accessible to bypass the construction zone.

Local businesses along the Trosper Road Extension will have continuous access throughout the construction period, with public access ensured from Capitol Boulevard.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Capitol Boulevard Corridor Improvements webpage for further information regarding current project activities and traffic restrictions.

Questions or concerns can be directed to the Project Info Line at (360) 754-4186 or email.

Freeway access and from Trosper west of the freeway is already so much better. Once it's finished this area will be much less of a chokepoint. I wish they'd stick on at Trosper and 2nd Ave. That light is terrible.

I'm a big fan of roundabouts over stoplights. I'm looking forward to using this new configuration. The Marvin road/I-5 upgrade took a little getting used to, but it seems to work great.
