Tumwater seeks parks commissioners

Posted

Tumwater is looking for applicants for its Parks & Recreation Commission.

Although the city’s press release did not state how many seats they want to be filled, its website reveals that the commission’s vice-chair Bill Kallapa II and member Shane Harrington’s terms are set to end June 5 next year.

According to the city, the commission advises the city council “on expansion and operation of the City’s parks, recreational facilities and programs; control and supervision of all City parks; and much more.”

The commission is made up of seven members who must be residents of the city, the press release stated, with two of them living in Tumwater’s Urban Growth Area. With the city mayor’s appointment and the rest of the council’s confirmation, the commissioners serve a three-year term.

The Tumwater Board of Parks & Recreation Commission holds its meetings every third Wednesday of the month at City Hall.

Interested community members may contact Parks & Recreation Director Chuck Denney through email or through (360) 754-4160. Applications may also be filled out online.
