Tumwater awards $321K contract for sewer main project on Antsen Street

The Tumwater City Council authorized Mayor Debbie Sullivan to sign a contract with A&D Enterprises LLC to construct a pressurized sewer main on Antsen Street for $321,000 on Tuesday, May 6.

The sewer main will be 6 inches in diameter and span 1,425 feet from Sapp Road to Chapparel Drive.

City Engineer Jeff Query told the Public Works Committee at an April meeting that building the new sewer main would increase capacity for the system since two sewer lift stations are operating in the area.

A lift station on Sapp Road and another at Linwood Avenue both discharge to an existing sewer main on Antsen Street. The project involves the construction of a second sewer main on the same street to specifically serve the lift station at Linwood Avenue.

The project also includes the decommissioning of a sewer lift station near Lake Park Drive and Linwood Avenue. Query said it is no longer being used and presents a safety issue due to active electrical components.

Construction will take around four weeks, and is expected to be mostly complete by July.

Query added the project will coincide with the city’s annual pavement maintenance project, so Antsen Street will also receive pavement repairs after the sewer installation.

Eleven firms competed for the project, submitting proposals that topped out at $429,000. A&D Enterprises offered the lowest bid, coming in below the city engineer’s estimate of $377,000.
